Switzerland celebrates National Day
The Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania marked the 735th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation with a National Day reception held at the Swiss Residence in Dar es Salaam. The event brought together over 300 guests, including representatives of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society and the Swiss community.
The Guest of Honour was the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Honourable Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, whose presence underscored the longstanding and close relations between Switzerland and Tanzania.
In her welcoming remarks, the Ambassador reflected on the significance of the Swiss National Day, noting that it is an occasion to celebrate not only Switzerland's history, but also the values that have shaped the country over the centuries. She highlighted freedom, diversity, dialogue and participation as principles that continue to define Switzerland today.
The Ambassador also emphasized the enduring partnership between Switzerland and Tanzania, which is rooted in more than 60 years of bilateral relations and over four decades of official development cooperation. Throughout this time, Switzerland has worked alongside government institutions, communities and the private sector to improve livelihoods and promote sustainable development.
Guests enjoyed an evening of Swiss hospitality, featuring traditional Swiss specialties such as raclette, cheese and chocolate, alongside musical entertainment by the band Swahili Blues, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
The Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to all guests, partners and sponsors who joined the celebration and continue to contribute to the strong friendship and cooperation between Switzerland and Tanzania.
